July 2008 and December 2009, SPDC military operations displaced
at least 118, 800 people in Eastern Burma, including 43,800 refugees
and 75,000 internally displaced persons. The number of displaced
people by the SPDC is likely to grow even more as the SPDC prepares
for its elections later this year.
In January, SPDC Army crimes against
humanity and war crimes displaced another 2,000 people in Pegu Division.
These crimes further highlight the urgent need for a UN Security
Council-mandated Commission of Inquiry into crimes against humanity
and war crimes in Burma.
